What's the difference between Bio Gel and Gel-X?

Bio Gel is a flexible, strengthening gel overlay applied directly over your natural nail, with little to no added length. Gel-X uses pre-shaped, lightweight tips for instant length with a smooth, natural finish. Ask your tech which fits your nails and lifestyle better.

What's the difference between Hot Gel, Bio Gel, and Builder Gel?

Nothing, really — they're the same category of product under different names. "Hot Gel," "Bio Gel," and "Builder Gel" (sometimes called BIAB, short for Builder in a Bottle) all describe a thicker gel that's built up on your natural nail to add strength and shine, as opposed to a thin gel polish color coat. Different brands and salons just use different marketing names for essentially the same technique — we call ours Bio Gel, but if you've heard it called Builder Gel or Hot Gel somewhere else, it's the service you're thinking of.

Why does my nail feel hot during a Builder Gel or Bio Gel application?

Accepted Answer

That warmth is normal — it's from an exothermic reaction, meaning the gel gives off heat as it cures under the UV/LED lamp, especially on a thicker layer. It's more noticeable for some people than others. To keep it comfortable, we cure on a lower-intensity setting and do it in short pulses — a few seconds under the lamp, then a few seconds out — instead of one long continuous cure. If it ever feels more than just warm, tell your tech right away so they can pull your hand out and adjust.

Do you offer custom nail art?

Yes — bring in a photo of a design you like, and we'll do our best to recreate it. We can't guarantee an exact 100% match to the original photo, but we'll get as close as possible.

Do you do nail art for game days or special events?

Accepted Answer

Yes — cat-eye, chrome, French tips, and custom hand-painted designs are all available as add-ons to any manicure or full set. Bring a color scheme or a photo and we'll do our best to recreate it — we can't guarantee an exact 100% match to the original, but we'll get as close as possible.

Yes — we welcome bridal parties, birthdays, and other group bookings. We have 2 VIP rooms for groups, and we recommend calling ahead so we can line up enough technicians for everyone.

Yes — French tips start at $10, chrome starts at $15, and cat-eye starts at $10, each as an add-on to your manicure or set.

What's the difference between removing acrylic and removing Bio Gel or Hot Gel?

Either way, come into the salon rather than removing it yourself at home. Acrylic is soaked off in acetone. Bio Gel and Hot Gel can't be soaked in acetone at all — instead, we file it down thin first, then go over it with a fine buffer to smooth away what's left. It's a slower, more careful process than a soak, which is part of why it's not something to try at home.

There's some smell, like at any nail salon — acetone, polish, and other products all have an odor. Blue Nails & Spa is a newer, low-odor space designed with that in mind, so most guests notice less of it than they expect.

No — we don't provide treatment for ingrown nails. For this, please see a podiatrist or medical professional first, since it can require care beyond what a nail salon should handle.

We offer complimentary repairs for service-related issues — breakage, lifting, or chipping — within 7 days of your appointment. After 7 days, repairs may carry a standard charge. Natural nail growth, aftercare, accidents, or misuse aren't covered.

Please arrive 5–10 minutes early to check in and pick your color. If you're more than 15 minutes late without letting us know, your appointment may be shortened, adjusted, or treated as a walk-in depending on availability.

Gel-X is great for instant length with a lightweight, natural look. Bio Gel is a strengthening overlay over your own nail. Dipping powder is durable and doesn't require a UV lamp. Tell your tech what matters most to you — durability, natural feel, or speed — and they'll recommend the best fit.

Most clients rebook gel and dip fills every 2–3 weeks, and acrylic fills every 2–3 weeks as well, depending on how fast your nails grow.
