Is Bio Gel the same as Hot Gel or Builder Gel?

Yes — "Hot Gel," "Bio Gel," and "Builder Gel" (sometimes called BIAB, or Builder in a Bottle) are all names for the same category of service: a thicker gel built up on your natural nail for strength and shine. Different salons and brands just use different names for it. We call ours Bio Gel, but it's the same thing you may have heard called Builder Gel or Hot Gel elsewhere.

Why does my nail feel hot while my Bio Gel is curing?

That warmth is a normal exothermic reaction — the gel gives off heat as it cures under the UV/LED lamp, especially on a thicker layer, and some people notice it more than others. We keep it comfortable by curing on a lower-intensity setting in short pulses — a few seconds under the lamp, then a few seconds out, repeated — instead of one long cure. Speak up if it ever feels like more than warmth, and we'll pull your hand out right away.

Is Bio Gel good for weak or damaged nails?

It can be — it's applied straight onto your own nail without a separate removal step first. Tell your tech about any nail concerns when you sit down and they'll let you know if it's a good fit that day.

How long does a Bio Gel set last?

Most guests rebook every 2–3 weeks as the natural nail grows out and the base needs filling in. Good aftercare helps it hold color and shine through that window.

How is Bio Gel removed?

Bio Gel can't be soaked off in acetone the way acrylic can. Instead, we file it down thin first, then go over it with a fine buffer to smooth away what's left. It's a slower process than a soak, which is why it's not something to try at home — filing too aggressively can thin out the natural nail underneath.

What's the difference between removing acrylic and removing Bio Gel?

Either way, come into the salon rather than doing it yourself at home. Acrylic is soaked off in acetone. Bio Gel can't be soaked off at all — instead, we file it down thin first, then finish with a fine buffer to smooth away what's left. It takes more time and a steadier hand than a soak-off.
