Gel-X Aftercare: How to Make It Last

Gel-X holds up well on its own, but a few daily habits make a real difference in how clean your set looks by week three.

The First 24 Hours

Avoid soaking your hands for long periods (baths, dishes without gloves) right after your appointment while the seal fully sets. Light hand-washing is fine.

Daily Habits That Help

  • Cuticle oil every 2–3 days keeps the seal at the base flexible instead of brittle.
  • Gloves for cleaning, dishes, and gardening — the biggest cause of early lifting is repeated water and chemical exposure.
  • Use your fingertips, not your nails, to open cans, peel stickers, or scratch — leverage on the tip edge is what cracks it.

If a Tip Lifts or Cracks

Don't pick at it or try to pop it back down yourself — that usually pulls off more of the natural nail underneath. Call us; we can usually repair just that one nail without redoing the whole set.

Between Appointments

Book your fill around the 2–3 week mark rather than waiting until it feels necessary — catching regrowth early keeps the set looking clean and reduces stress on the tip line.

Not sure if you need a fill or a new set? See our Gel-X Fill vs New Set guide, or head back to the Bio Gel & Gel-X page for pricing.
