Gel Manicure Aftercare: The First 48 Hours and Beyond
Gel is cured hard by the time you leave the salon, but the first two days still matter more than people expect for how long the set ultimately lasts.
The First 48 Hours
Avoid prolonged hot water exposure — long dishwashing sessions, hot baths — for the first day or two. Heat and moisture are the two things most likely to start lifting at the edges early.
Harsh Cleaners and Chemicals
Wear gloves for cleaning with bleach or strong detergents. These break down the top coat faster than everyday wear does, especially around the cuticle line.
The Daily Oil Habit
Cuticle oil applied nightly is the single most effective habit for extending wear — it keeps the seal at the cuticle flexible, which is usually where lifting starts first.
When to Come Back
If you notice a lifted edge or a crack, it's better to come in for a quick fix than to keep wearing it — a small lift left alone tends to spread.
