What's the difference between Bio Gel and Gel-X?

Bio Gel is a flexible, strengthening gel overlay applied directly over your natural nail — it adds strength without much added length. Gel-X uses pre-shaped, lightweight tips glued on and sealed in gel, giving you instant length with a smooth, natural curve. If your natural nails are healthy and you just want them stronger and shinier, Bio Gel is usually the fit. If you want length you can't grow yourself, Gel-X is the better starting point.

Is Bio Gel or Gel-X better for weak or damaged nails?

Bio Gel can be a good option if you prefer an overlay directly on your natural nail rather than an added-length extension — it's applied without a separate removal step first. Tell your tech about any nail concerns when you sit down and they'll recommend the right one for you.

How long does Bio Gel or Gel-X last?

Most guests rebook every 2–3 weeks as their natural nail grows out and the base of the overlay or tip needs filling in. With good aftercare, both hold color and shine well through that window.

How do I take care of Bio Gel or Gel-X nails at home?

Use cuticle oil every couple of days to keep the seal flexible, wear gloves for cleaning or dishes, and avoid using your nails as tools (opening cans, peeling labels) — that's the most common way an overlay or tip lifts early. If a nail does lift or chip, don't pick at it; call us and we can usually fix just that nail instead of a full redo.

Can I get nail art on Bio Gel or Gel-X?

How is Bio Gel or Gel-X removed?

Accepted Answer

Gel-X tips are soaked off in acetone, same as acrylic. Bio Gel can't be soaked off at all — instead, we file it down thin first, then finish with a fine buffer to smooth away what's left. Either way, come into the salon rather than removing it at home; picking, peeling, or filing too aggressively can thin out the natural nail underneath.

What happens if I go past my fill window?

Nothing breaks the set, but the gap between your cuticle and the base of the overlay or tip gets more visible as the natural nail grows out, and the edges have more time to catch on things. If you're past 3 weeks, it's still fine to come in — we'll just do a slightly longer fill to catch it back up.
